The Florida wildlife alphabet
In the spirit of the Crazy ABC's alphabet song on the Barenaked Ladies' children's album, Snacktime, I've come up with some alphabet words of my own. Here is a new alphabet for Florida, and it's all about wildlife!
A is for alligator
B is for burrowing owl
C is for crested caracara
D is for dolphin
E is for Everglades snail kite
F is for fox squirrel
G is for gopher tortoise
H is for humpback whale
I is for indigo snake
J is for Florida scrub jay
K is for Key deer
L is for loggerhead sea turtle
M is for Miami blue butterfly
N is for North Atlantic right whale
O is for osprey
P is for panther
Q is for the quick peregrine falcon (I'm really reaching now)
R is for rabbit (marsh rabbit)
S is for Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly
T is for tree snail
U is for Ursus americanus floridanus (Florida black bear) (I'm reaching again. Sort of.)
V is for Florida salt marsh vole
W is for West Indian manatee
X is for eXtinct ivory-billed woodpecker (Bear with me through these tough last letters....)
Y is for yet another sea turtle, the leatherback
Z is for zoinks, a whooping crane!
Many of these animals are threatened or endangered, and some live only in Florida.

Very nice list!
I've got to go see what a salt marsh vole is now...
Aw! Cute! What's this kind of poem called? I forgot!
And YES, the pg teens.................
Good grief! You've compiled quite a list here. I lived in FL for 24 years, and I had no idea some of those animals were there. It's such a lush, tropical landscape. And the everglades always seem threatened. It's tragic so many animals are endangered there.
Oh I want that CD! I keep forgetting. :) Great list!

Cool! :) I didn't know they had a children's CD! I'll have to check it out.
You should publish a children's book. They would definitely sell it at all the tourist stands & shops in Florida. :)
Cute! I should think through what some of the flora and fauna around here might yield in terms of verse...
Blessings!
so awesome! i love it. foster awareness of where it is we live from the beginning. i love when the babies follow geckos, listen to the birds, gawk at the flowers. love the alphabet.....
