The itsy-bitsy mangled speck on the floor
My son and I were playing with toys in his room. I noticed a shadow moving across the floor. It was a spider!

OK, it was really only a daddy longlegs spider.

I pointed out the spider to the Man-cub. "Look! It's the itsy-bitsy spider!" I said, mentioning one of his favorite songs. This could be an important primary earth science lesson, right here. I expected my son to revere the spider as a unique creature. Or at least study it from a distance.
He chased it.
(As much as a person can chase a spider.)
He tried to stop the spider from running away and smashed it, then accidentally sat on it and couldn't figure out where it went.
When we finally found the poor creature, it looked like this:

So much for his sympathy toward bugs.
Maybe next time I try to teach my son something, it won't involve something dying.

LOL! That's a wicked looking spider! Ewww!
My kids run shrieking the other way when they see bugs and spiders!
I'm sorry, I can't stop looking at that top spider picture. What were you talking about?
I don't kwow know WHY I'm so stinking afraid of spiders, but I AM.
hehe oh no!!! My kids would have run screaming if it is any consolation!
LOL - Good for you for trying to turn it into a lesson. I just shriek and slap a jar over bugs so my husband can deal with them when he gets home. (I'm a wimp.)
How would you feel about this thing crawling across your floor:
Longest Insect Discovered
I. Hate. Spiders.
Oh so very glad that it was not the horrific spider in the first picture. Ugh I hate hate hate spiders. But Daddy Long Legs don't bother me much for some reason. Love the bike picture to illustrate the poor thing.
Sorry about the outcome and tough lesson. However, I suppose you should be glad that he did not run away screaming from the spider. My oldest is not into bugs, thank goodness he has not seen a centipede this fall. Still waiting to see how the little one will react. I have a feeling he will try to dissect it ;)
Awww. Like you, I think it would be more sad for me to see the spider crunched than my kiddo. Sounds like he won't be afraid of spiders much though.
It's sweet that you tried to introduce your little one to the wonderful world of spiders. I probably would have run shrieking in the other direction - I'm a wimp that way.
