Hello! My name is

Just north of the Tropic of Cancer lies the Tropic of Mom! I'm a former South Florida freelance writer turned stay-at-home mom. A former traveler. A former chocolate chip cookie baker. OK, I'm an ex-everything....

My book 30 Eco-Trips in Florida: The Best Nature Excursions (And How to Leave Only Your Footprints) was published in 2005 by the University Press of Florida. My husband took all the photographs.

Then we had an adorable boy in 2006 and another in 2009. You know, an heir and a spare. Heh.

I blog about family, everyday life, the joy and importance of playing outside and nature-type stuff. The National Wildlife Federation asked me to become a Founding Mother of its Be Out There project, so I did, gladly.

As a NWF Be Out There Founding Mother, I worked with Johnson's Natural to create a video showing moms how to safely play with your babies or young children outside:

Tropic Home and Family is where I write about projects and things for the home, Florida travel and events, post reviews and occasionally offer giveaways.

Away from the blogosphere, I like to go places and do things. Work and play in my garden. I also like to help nonprofits with site design and e-mail newsletters. Sometimes I sew.
