Baby showers for the second (third, fourth...) child?
This will be my second baby (38 weeks along today!), and I have pretty much everything I need to welcome home a child. I think most parents probably keep things like bassinets, swings, car seats and Xanax if they think there's a chance they're going to have more children -- and we kept almost everything. What we needed (a double stroller, a second baby monitor), my husband and I bought. I still have my son's baby clothes folded neatly into drawers labeled by size (woo-hoo! One area of my life where I'm actually organized!). If this baby turns out to be a girl, well ... girls like trucks and puppy dogs too, right?
Because we're already well-stocked, the idea of having a shower to get stuff doesn't seem right. We just don't need stuff. Friends did have a fun shower for a group of us moms who are expecting or recently gave birth, but it wasn't really a stuff shower. It was for fun.
Another friend plans to get together a group of friends for a fun girly time on the beach next week. That shower-of-sorts won't be about stuff, either.
It's a perfect idea for parents who don't need to get things but still want to celebrate a new life coming into the world.
Still, there are a few people who have asked what we need or would like.
Truth be told -- sadly -- what I really want is something along these lines:
How about some Marc Jacobs sandals:

A maternatini:

Decadent truffles:

And maybe a flat-screen TV.
You know -- standard pregnancy issue items.
Selfish, I know ... but when you consider the months of selflessness ahead of me, is it really so bad?!

LOL not selfish at all! I love it!
I think a celebration of birth is so important :)
It's important to take care of yourself. I also find it amazing that the littlest things make me happy...like a box of decadent chocolate or a new pair of shoes, a great haircut, etc.
Not all all. Actually, I'm not even pregnant, and I would love any or all of those, too :)
Congrats on reaching 38 weeks! I hope you're doing well and hanging in there. I remember by then I was doing everything short of jumping jacks to get labor going!
I'd be in hog heaven over some Godiva dark chocolate truffles, and I don't even have pregnancy as an excuse!
whatever works...
You totally deserve ALL of that! Especially the maternatini! Someone should bring you one of those in the hospital!
Those items are definitely well deserved...especially the drink! lol And if you do end up having a girl, you'll probably become addicted to the scores of absolutely adorable girl clothing out there...I know from experience!
I like your ideas for presents...I'd really like the TV. Too bad no more babies for me!
Yay! I'm so excited for you...baby will be here soon!
Speaking of maternitinis....what WAS the recipe that you used for the ones at my baby shower?? I've got some cute plastic cocktail "glasses" that I want to bring out to the beach next week!!
Hmmm...I like all of those options....who cares about what you kids wear..as long as you have chocolate, right?
