Moms are the new, well, moms
A few months back, a parenting magazine touted from the cover that dads are the new moms.
I couldn't figure that one out. Even after reading the article inside. If you are able to wrap your head around that one, please clue me in.
To me, it's not even about gender roles. I guess coming from the perspective of being a mom, it's about how other moms are there for one another. They support one another. They listen to tales of woe about teething, sleep, tantrums, emergency room visits and embarrassing moments. They swap labor and delivery war-wound stories. They are happy for one another when something actually goes right.
Moms are eager to jump up and down, scream or give you a hug when you find out you're having a baby.
They organize baby showers.

And when the strap of your new tank top snaps within minutes of arriving, moms offer advice on how to fix it in a pinch.
They make or carefully select gifts...

...including handmade party favors.

They ship baby presents through the mail when they can't travel to celebrate with you. (Baby presents that big brothers have to open.)

Moms are the best thing since, well, moms. Moms are the new moms. Moms make the world go 'round. I'm not trying to be trite, but ... moms simply rock.

Your shower looks amazing! What great friends.
And I see more of a trend towards stay-at-home moms so I can't see how on earth that magazine thought dads were the new moms. My husband is very involved with the kids but I still do like 90% of the "mothering". Probably more. But I do like to give him a little credit.
awwww what a wonderful shower!!!! I do not think I am having a shower this time. I do not know enough people yet I suppose :) Love living vicariously through you!
Dads are awesome, but so not a Mom ... I should know I was raised by a single Dad ... he rocks but it isn't the same :)
Moms ROCK! Was that a onesie that everyone signed, a guest book, so to speak? I love, love, love that idea!
Awww. That was well said. We, moms, don't often get recognition for ALL that we do. Thanks for putting it "out there" so eloquently.
Btw, I've been voting for you - everyday. :)
Amen! Mom's certainly do rock! Sounds like you've got some fabulous ones surrounding you.
Awesome post!!!! It's so true!!! And you sound like you have some amazing mommy friends!!!
How lucky to have a shower! I only had a shower for my first baby. None for #2 or #3! Looks lovely!
Moms totally beat the pants off of Dads. The shower looks divine, can you imagine what a man organized baby shower would look like - pork rinds give me heart burn. ;) Congrats.
Excellent!! I think it means that Dads are taking a more active role in parenting, "these days".
Moms are the best!!! I'm sorry Dads, but there is no contest.
That is so sweet! Moms are incredibly thoughtful and generous. I am so glad your mom friends are so wonderful. The baby shower looked amazing!
You are sooooo right. A mom is a mom and a dad can never be a mom. Neither can a mom ever be a dad. Kinda neat how that all works out, isn't it????
Wow. That shower looks amazing! And I'm with you...moms do rock! And I will definitely vote for you!
I bet big brother had fun opening the gifts, looks like you had a great shower! Oh and dads will never be the new moms, unless some major biology changes, lol
