A herd of books

I should be crying uncle.
Before either of my sons were even a speck, I hoped to be able to treat any future children with one new book a month. At the rate we have collected books, though, my oldest should be more than twice his age by that measure.
The Man-cub's room is overflowing with books. The three drawers in his nightstand are crammed with nothing but books. There are books on his dresser. A heap of books in the corner. Books inside a cabinet just for him in the family room. And the Bug, who is barely just starting to see well, has a basket full in his room.
Recently, I tried to corral them and get them in order. (If a cowgirl wrassles cows, does a bookgirl wrassle books? Yee-haw and giddyup!) But even though I know the book-wrassling will be an ongoing task, it's one I gladly and willingly put up with because I know there will always be a book on hand for my boys. (The Man-cub recently brought me The Very Hungry Caterpillar and "read" it to me. My heart galloped with pride.) And that will foster a love of reading, and when they learn to read, new worlds will open up for them.

I love to read. I love to read aloud. I read to Annie almost every night - book in one hand, the other hand occupied with massaging her back or rubbing her feet - interrupted only to turn pages.
you can never have too many books!
I put my books in a big tub, and rotate them, leaving out the very favorites. That way the kids feel like they get new books every few weeks. Sparks their interest all over again.
If you want to wander down my road I’m home.
We have been taken over by books. I bought a ton of them when I was student teaching, teaching and now for the boys. I need to open my boxes and look for chapter books for my big kid since he is starting to read those in first grade. Oy! Note that we still keep buying more and keep them in the book shelve, rubbermaid containers and the floor.
That's so funny. I bought books for my kids before I was even married!! I LOVE having books around - and what a better way to "spoil" your kids than with books?! Ebay is a GREAT source for bulk books, btw...
Now go corral them! :-)
My kids are readers too...I'll take that with the avalanche of books it comes with any day!
We are nearly overflowing here too and loving it! I have some readers and some reluctant ones! :) Hopefully your boys will be willing readers!
I am with you. However, picking up books and re-stacking them on the shelves a billion times a day is worth it. Especially when they enjoy them so much.
I'm right there with all the other comments. I rarely-never buy books and yet they seem to reproduce like bunnies. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I hear you Friend! Tons of books here too. But I love buying books...so I guess I live with the mess.
because i fear that some day we will all be killed by the piles of books in the house i go through them once a year and donate to the public library. i get some books out of the house and hey tax deduction. but then we go buy more books....
Isabella LOVES books too. In fact, we have many of the ones I see in your photo. Books are my guilty pleasure when I have money to spare (ha), and it looks like it may be that way for Isabella too.
We bring truckloads to the local used book store, but come back with almost as many!
Yes, yes! Go books. Continue to surround your boys with books. Nourish their inner bibliophile. Lucky boys.
(said the reading and writing teacher. lol)
My oldest is 8 and loves to read. I'm positive she loves reading because I read to her as a baby, then toddler and then little girl. Keep the books coming!
