Portraits of the artist
My three-year-old came home from preschool this week with a piece of artwork.

"{Gasp}! It's beautiful! You painted a tree," I said.
"No!" the Man-cub said.
"It's a mouse!"
"No."
"It's ... you made a ... ferris wheel."
I really thought I was using my imagination.
I'm new at this preschooler stuff, but one bit of advice I've heard that others swear by is you never, ever ask, "What is it?"
"No way, Mom. It's ME!"
"Oh, of course. It's beautiful. Good job!"
(Is he picking his nose so hard that it started bleeding?)

Those pictures are kinda like ink blot tests aren't they? LOL My youngest is in Kindergarten and brings home all sorts of interesting art work. Sometimes it's best just to seem all excited and gush "Oh my goodness! I LOVE IT!" even if you have no idea what "it" is ;)
Oh, that is cute. I can see him in there...sort of. :)
I NEVER get it right. My go-to line? "Tell me all about it!" Then I don't get into trouble for getting it wrong or not knowing ("What is it?" was never well received by Gracie) in the first place.
Hahaha!
Teacher tip: "Wow, I love your art! What can you tell me about it?"
Beautiful picture little dude! :)
I have some pictures that look just like those! Gotta love preschool art!
That's a great self portrait.
Awesome!!
Interpretation is half the battle!
yup ... I always ask ... OOooo wow, tell me all about this picture!
