Earth Day at twilight

The sun sets and the heat of the day loses its rage. Little eyes, legs, arms, hands itch to be outside. Feet want to feel the brush of grass on their bare soles. It's the last chance to play outside, before it gets too dark to see.
The boys spin and sway in the tree swings, feeling like birds and wishing they too could land on the leafy branches above.
The moon becomes visible. Green Hour turns to Blue Hour as the sky relaxes and eases into night. The baby sits right in the grass -- curious stuff. He plucks a wavy blade. His big brother inspects holes and hiding places. He wants every bird to be either a hummingbird or an eagle, and every lizard that darts for cover in the bush is an animal that needs to be rescued. He looks for Very Hungry Caterpillars and finds just one to photograph.

Daylight fades more as the sky loses its blueness. It's time to go inside, but not before noticing more of the Earth's beauty on our patio.

On evenings like this, it's good to be an Earthling playing outside.
Psst, check me out on the National Wildlife Federation's site about Green Hour time.

Greetings, Earthling. Nice pics.
This is nice -- so much imagery. Our bedtime book tonight was about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly, and here you have a monarch caterpillar. I also liked your story on the NWF site. Cool!
Wow, National Wildlife Federation. Good work. Love the reports on the outdoors and you apparently live in a awe inspiring locale.
Oh, loveliness! Ain't earth grand?!!

And, such a fun looking caterpillar.
